Salon 209 was originally founded in September of 1998 by James Manning and Rob Black at 209 North Magnolia Ave, in the Moses Auto Parts building (hence, the name). It was a wonderful site that included a lunch and wine bar and then could become a large dance area suitable for wedding receptions and other parties after hours.
In February of 2004, after a great six years, James and Rob decided to buy a new location in the Sovereign Building on the opposite side of North Magnolia but they still retained the name of Salon 209. The wine bar became the Salon 209 Deli and the former Ocala National Bank area became the hair salon. What a challenge, changing a bank into a salon! The vault, that contained millions of dollars before, now became the massage room. The teller cages became the shampoo room. Sadly, James was stricken with cancer and passed away in 2007 and Salon 209 was in limbo. In 2008, two longtime employees formed a corporation, purchased the salon and moved it from its small North Magnolia Street location to the spacious 10th Street space (formerly a Radio Shack store) where it is situated now. Laura Burgoon then became the sole owner when she purchased the salon in 2010.
With its homey, yet elegant styling, you would never guess that it was once a Radio Shack store. In 2011, Laura doubled the size of the salon and designated the new space for the nail techs and an esthetician room. Never one to rest on her laurels, she is now preparing a room for the salon's new massage therapist.
